Description
Mule deer rut hunts start in late October and run through to the end of November when bucks can be found chasing does that have migrated to their lower elevation winter ranges. These mule deer populations are excellent and hunters can realistically expect to harvest dark heavy horned bucks in the 150”-170” inch class consistently, though using this outfits various options of hunt styles can bring forth true trophy class bucks in the 170”-190” range as well. This is a 2:1 fully guided 8 day hunt with the option to upgrade to a 1:1 hunt. Late season hunts take place from November 15 to December 10. These hunts are more accommodating to those who want to decrease the amount of physical demands are the deer are often found in lower elevations.

Description
November 15th to December 10th will be the most active deer hunting option. Temperatures are colder and the rut is in full swing, causing bucks to stay on the move consistently. Higher numbers of bucks may be seen, though the likelihood of getting within bow range is lower. This is best suited to a rifle style hunt, and the success rate is very high. Those big smart bucks that stay away from the lower ranchlands during the regular season will begin to funnel down and look for does on the flatlands and river breaks. This is a great time to come find a big, heavy horned mule deer buck and get in on the action. Hunts will be conducted out of either high alpine horse camps (weather permitting) or the comfort of our basecamp lodge using a combination of 4×4 vehicle, ATV, or spot and stalk glassing. A great option for anyone.

Deer will be found at lower elevations during the late season hunt, but hunter must still be prepared for some moderate hiking to find the target bucks and make sure to be able to get close enough to make the shot. Late season hunts require less hiking than early season backcountry hunts.
Transportation (To/From Basecamp)
The majority of these hunts are conducted from a comfortable basecamp located in the heart of the concession. From here, hunters can easily access Black Bear, Mule Deer, Cougar, and California Bighorn and be back for a night of comfort in the cabins. Camp is located in southern Alberta. During the spring and fall hunting seasons, traveling along the Sea To Sky Highway, or Highway 1 is the recommended travel route for their incredible scenery. For those traveling during the winter season, outfitter strongly recommend traveling the Trans Canada Hwy 1 route; as the Sea to Sky, Hwy 99 route winds its way through high elevation mountain passes, and can be treacherous. For those guests who prefer commercial air travel, Kelowna B.C. (YLW) is the closest airport. Outfitter will meet you upon your arrival for the 4.5 hour car ride to our hunting concession. Pickup and Drop-off from Kelowna is included in the price of the hunt. If hunter desires to be picked up and dropped off from Vancouver, please let the outfitter know well in advance, as arrangements need to be made. A fee of $400 will be added to the price of the hunt for pickup/drop-off to Vancouver. Both Air Canada and Westjet Airlines have regularly scheduled flights daily from Vancouver to Kelowna. This outfitter is located 2.5 hours from Kamloops, British Columbia, or roughly 4 hours from Vancouver.

Description
Outfitter does have the option of caping and salting all hides here in camp, though this will take some time away from the hunt. This is a tedious process and great care is taken to ensure proper handling of the hides. If you would like the outfitter to take this time to care for a trophy, they can do so, but please know it will take at least a half to full day of hunting time from your hunt…time you could otherwise use to search for an additional trophy animal. If you choose to continue hunting instead, they can freeze the hides and heads, and transport them at a later date to their taxidermist to be cared for at a later date. The taxidermist reserves the right to charge whatever fee is necessary for the caping and salting of these hides once in his care. Usually this is around $200-$300 for this service. At the end of each hunt, every client will be required to sign a Declaration form, as well as a record of receipt for transporting wildlife. If hunter has a taxidermist back home they would like to use, please provide the outfitter with their contact details so they know where the animal is going. If hunter is planning on keeping some if not all of the meat, please contact the outfitter for further information regarding the proper procedure for transporting meat back into the USA or other international destinations. Hunter can also buy coolers from the outfitter for $50 each, filled with frozen meat to take home. All wild game meat not taken with the client will be used in camp or given to local First Nation families.
