Description
The oryx in New Mexico or “gemsbok” are native to Africa’s Kalahari Desert region. Between 1969 and 1977 nearly 100 oryx were released on the White Sands Missile Range. By the mid-1990’s, New Mexico’s oryx population was increasing at a rapid rate and had already spread to areas outside of the missile range. Because of this, a multi-agency effort to regulate New Mexico’s oryx population through hunting was established. We jump at the opportunity to offer quality and unique hunts to our clients and these guided oryx hunts in New Mexico are both! Trophy quality on our ranches has never been better and we kill some very impressive oryx bulls every season. Oryx meat is considered by many to be the best-eating exotic on the North American continent. Word is getting out about this special hunting opportunity for this beautiful free-range species, so jump on the schedule as soon as you can to avoid limited availability. Off-Range Oryx Hunts on Private Land Our New Mexico off-range oryx hunts take place on a very large tract of private land in the central part of the state. We have leased multiple adjoining ranches for nearly two decades giving us the opportunity to hunt them simultaneously. This gives our oryx guides great flexibility and lots of quality ground to cover which translates to increased opportunities for our off-range oryx clients. These hunts are considered “off-range” oryx hunts because they are not on the White Sands Missile Range. You will be hunting free-range New Mexico Oryx and they can be a little spooky by nature. Some of the country we will be hunting is relatively open so your shot opportunities may be on the long side. We ask that clients who book our guided New Mexico oryx hunts stretch their shooting ability before they show up in camp. A little pre-season prep goes a long way on these unique and exciting hunts for one of North America’s most popular exotic game species. Your New Mexico oryx tag is for “Any Oryx”, although we strive to harvest mature bulls in the 30”-35” range. One of our clients took a giant 38-inch bull on our private NM oryx lease in March of 2021! Our private land tags are NOT once-in-a-lifetime opportunities, and you’re welcome back for another New Mexico Private Land Oryx hunt every year!
