Description

This hunt is 5 day fully guided hunt located Hunt is located on the Yellowstone/Vernal/Bonanza Unit, within the confines of the Heber-Kamas U.S. Forest Service Ranger District along the south slope of the Uinta Mountains. This unit is the largest east and west-running mountain range in the Lower 48 and holds lots of elk which leads to a lot of pressure from other hopeful hunters. The terrain is rugged but elk can be found if movement patterns remain consistent. Success rates have historically been low, but the fire season of 2024 made finding the elk a little easier in 2025. The entire unit covers roughly 4239 square miles and 61% public land, this hunt offers rugged terrain spanning elevations of 6,200 feet to 13,500 feet. This is a general season hunt, so hunters can expect to see other hunters on or near the roads but not as many in the roadless section for which the operating permit allows. We focus on catching elk in transition zones and early morning/late evening movements between aspen groves and pine forests. Water is fairly isolated to mountain lakes and small streams. Get used to climbing and descending steep terrain, crossing creeks and rocky scree areas. This is a general season hunt, so hunters can expect to see other hunters on the roads, but not as many in the high mountain meadows where we focus on the mature elk that graze between aspen groves and pine forests. Expert guides will bring you into the backyard of these elk and put you into a great shooting position to take home your meat trophy.

Description

Gear is typical for any western big game hunt. Mostly expect to get to the hunting area and glass up shooter bulls. Careful glassing reveals the mature bulls that the outfitter is looking to harvest. With multiple techniques utilized, glassing and spot and stalk is the mainstay of the outfitters typical hunting method. As the rut approaches, the outfitter will switch up the technique to calling, or in most cases both. Also, with the guides' knowledge of the area and terrain, there is always an opportunity of the ambush at a pinch point of the traveling bull heading to the feeding area or water.
