Description
Embark on an exciting adventure to the Russian Far East to hunt Russian Snow Sheep. This hunt combines helicopter assistance and backpack-style mountain sheep hunting, offering a unique and challenging experience. Hunters should be in excellent physical condition, as carrying your own pack is required. The hunt is similar to a Helicopter-assisted backpack Dall sheep hunt in the Northwest Territories, but we use smaller helicopters, which allow for more precise access to the alpine regions. Each hunter is assigned their own area, avoiding the common hassle of hiking back and forth to a central base camp. We take groups of 2 to 4 hunters per area, and there is typically no "base camp" on Russian hunts. The weather can be unpredictable, with fog, snow, or rain often occurring, so it’s crucial that hunters have prior experience in mountain hunting, long-range shooting (200-500 yards), and are comfortable with backpack-style camping. This hunt lasts 5 to 7 days, depending on weather conditions, and includes helicopter flights from Kamchatka to the hunting area and back. Each hunter will have one guide. Packers are available for an additional fee. Ram sizes generally range from 32" to 39", with the occasional 40"+ Snow Sheep being taken, though these are rare. The hunting season runs from August 1st to September, with early August being ideal for milder weather. Late August and early September can bring snow, so those hunting later in the season must be fit, experienced, and prepared for more challenging conditions. The hunt includes one Russian Snow Sheep with no additional trophy fees. However, hunters are responsible for flights from the USA to Moscow, as well as any commercial flights from Moscow to the hunting area. While some helicopter flights are included, additional costs of $2,500 to $3,500 for extra flights are likely. A Russian Visa, lodging before or after the hunt, and tips for the staff (approximately $2,000) are additional expenses. Most trophies will need to be shipped home, though we will attempt to send them with hunters when possible, depending on various factors. This hunt is priced similarly to a Canadian Dall Sheep trip and is about half the cost of a Bighorn or Stone Sheep hunt, offering excellent value in mountain hunting. Our Russian outfitting partners and manager, who speak English, handle all logistics, including organizing hunting areas, local guides, camp staff, helicopters, gun permits, visas, and camp operations.
